i Can Soccer
A positive and fun approach to soccer Learn the skills and techniques to build confidence.

Coach Ken is currently taking Fall 2017 off. Programs will start again in 2018. Dates TBA.

Looking to get a head start on the summer soccer season?  Maybe trying soccer for the first time or hoping to make the Premier Team, iCanSoccer offers two different types of sessions:

1. Player (ages 6 - 12) / Keeper (ages 8 - 12) Development Sessions (Spring: May 1 - June 10)

2. Let's Play Soccer Festival (Sat Apr 16 & Sat May 14) - Ages 3 to 14

Spaces are limited so register early. If any session is FULL, please register anyway.  This way, your child will be placed on the waiting list.  Five players moved from the waiting list in the Winter Session.

Please note that all of our indoor sessions take place at local school gymnasiums and we will be using futsal balls (see bottom of page for what is a futsal ball?). Also, that all of our sessions require each player has soccer chin pads and socks, clean sneakers, and a water bottle.

2016 Spring Session(U9 is 5 sessions; U10-12 is 10 sessions)

Registration Form | Payment Options | Who is Registered?

Spaces in the Spring session will be first offered to players who participated in the Winter Session.  After March 1st, spaces in the Spring Session will be open to new participants.  The rationale? We want to build continuity and a relationship with the players. However, please do not wait to register after March 1st -- register to be placed on our Waiting List.  Waiting List players will be asked first if they wish to fill any open spots.  Thanks.

Please note: iCanSoccer also reserves the right to prioritize 2 Day Registrations over 1 day Registrations for U10-12 programs.

1 on 1 Skill Sessions

EQUIPMENT: Socks, Shin Pads, Clean Sneakers, Water Bottle (no cleats)

These sessions offer players an opportunity to develop / improve their ball control and their 1 on 1 moves to beat a defender / create space.  Many leading soccer skill programs begin with ball control and then progress to on 1 on 1 moves.

The basic structure of each session is as follows (however, differences in format and expectations for a U9 group is different than for a U10-12 group):

1. Ball Mastery / Control Touches

2. Introduce 1 v 1 Skill Move

3. Learn The Move (3 steps: no pressure, limited pressure, full pressure)

4. Game to practice new skills

The goal of each session is to teach two 1 on 1 moves and will end with a game situation so the players can practice their skills.  Please note that learning these skills takes time; thus, depending on the group, we may return to the same 1 on 1 move for at the next session, or we may only cover one 1 on 1 move per session.  Flexibility and proceeding where the group is will be the key.  It is better to walk away with two or three moves each player can successfully perform than a dozen moves they will forget once the training is over.  Eager players will want to go home and practice these moves for 10 minutes a day until the next session.  Eager players will always find space to practice skills: hallway, basement, or garage.  Those players who practice at home will improve tenfold over those who only touch a ball at our sessions.

These sessions provide all eager players a fun and structured method to improve their skills and gain the confidence in handling the ball.

Primary Coaching Resources for these sessions include:

  • Coerver Coaching
  • Online Soccer Academy
  • Challenger Sports
  • Beast Mode Soccer
  • Fast Feet Soccer
  • First Touch Soccer
  • New York Red Bulls Youth Academy
  • Coach Ken's Training

Goalkeeping Sessions

EQUIPMENT: Socks, Shin Pads, Clean Sneakers, Keeper Gloves, Water Bottle (no cleats)

These sessions offer goalkeepers (or, potential goalkeepers) an opportunity to learn the essentials of the trade.  Goalkeepers will work primarily on the beginning two steps in the Pyramid:

1. Basic technique and ball handling with hands

2. Footwork, mobility, and positioning

And, once the goalkeepers experience success in these first two areas, keepers will develop practice in the final three areas:

3. Shot Stopping

4. Crosses & Distribution

5. Game Play

Eager goalkeepers will also want to continue to develop their footwork skills as goalkeepers play an integral part in ball distribution and playing from the back.

Primary Coaching Resources for these sessions include:

  • Coerver Coaching
  • Serious Goalkeeping
  • Soccer Drills and Goalkeeping Training
  • KeeperStop
  • Coach Ken's Training

What is a Futsal Ball?

Futsal balls are specialized balls designed as a low-bounce ball.  The Futsal ball gradually eliminates the "lazy pass" as well as enhancing proper form to propel the ball (knee bending, turn hips, and sweet spot striking).  As US Soccer says, "[r]epeated touches on the ball eventually produce a motion which, when transplanted outdoors with a high bounce ball, translates into a firmer and longer pass . . . If one works during the offseason on striking a Futsal ball, then a larger bouncier ball is struck with greater confidence and authority in the outdoor game."

Advance Notice Mailing List

Subscribe to iCanSoccer Advance Notice mailing list and receive notice of our next player and keeper development sessions 72 hours before the general public does. Yes, you'll have three days to register your child before the general public. Advance notice may be the difference from getting in to the program OR the program being full. Big value in joining this list.
We won't share or sell your email ever. We may also include helpful hints on player and keeper development. However, Coach Ken doesn't have the time to overburden you with emails. Too busy planning the next session.
